There’s something so magical about an engagement session in downtown Chicago—and Kelsey & Spencer’s session was no exception! We explored some of the city’s most iconic spots, embraced an unexpected rainstorm, and even had a bonus session to make sure we captured every perfect moment!

We kicked off the session at The Honeycomb in Lincoln Park, one of my favorite architectural gems in the city! It was the perfect backdrop to get things started, with its modern, geometric design and the most gorgeous light filtering through! From there, we strolled through Lincoln Park, where the urban charm met lush greenery, giving us the best of both worlds. And then, to wrap up the session? The Chicago Lakefront, of course!

But here’s where things got interesting—as we made our way to the lakefront, the skies opened up, and it started absolutely pouring! There wasn’t a single indication of rain in the forecast, so it was a total surprise! But instead of running for cover, Kelsey & Spencer embraced the moment, and we captured some of the most romantic, candid shots of them laughing and twirling in the rain! ☔✨ Even though they were drenched, they handled it like total champs! We still grabbed some portraits, but to make sure we got those extra dreamy shots, we scheduled a second session—this time, sans rain! 😉

Beyond just a stunning session, these two have the sweetest love story! They met while working at Oracle in Chicago and were great friends before realizing their connection ran deeper. A last-minute John Mayer concert turned into their first date, and the rest was history! 🎶💛

Spencer’s proposal was straight out of a movie! He planned an entire surprise, telling Kelsey he had to fly to London for work the morning after another John Mayer concert. To get her out of the house, a friend convinced her she had “won” a spa morning at The Peninsula Hotel. Meanwhile, Spencer actually went to the airport, bought a one-way ticket just to get through security and send her a photo as “proof” he was leaving. Then, he rushed back to their apartment to set up candles and roses everywhere! When Kelsey arrived home, Spencer was waiting on one knee, with John Mayer playing in the background. Talk about romance!!! 😍

These two tied the knot this past November at the new venue, The Gage, and I cannot wait to share more from their stunning wedding day soon!
