There’s just something about a September wedding—when the light is golden, the air is crisp, and everything feels extra magical. Emily + Richard’s wedding at Poplar Hall in Appleton was exactly that kind of day. As an Appleton wedding photographer, I get to see a lot of beautiful celebrations… but this one was truly special.
Everything took place at Poplar Hall, a stunning venue that sits right along the Fox River. It’s one of my favorite locations for an Appleton wedding because it’s so thoughtfully designed—for both beauty and functionality. With the ceremony, reception, and portraits all in one place, it made the day easy and enjoyable for everyone (especially the guests!).
The color palette was soft and romantic—hues of dusty blue, white, pinks, and gold. Every detail was beautifully curated, from the florals to the invitation suite to the elegant decor inside the venue.
But what made the day unforgettable? The people.
Emily was walked down the aisle by her sweet momma, and she and Richard were married by one of their closest friends—making the ceremony feel incredibly personal. Later in the evening, Emily shared a touching dance with her twin brother, and also surprised Richard’s dad with a father-daughter style dance. (Since he doesn’t have a daughter of his own, this moment had everyone in tears—myself included!)
The reception was packed with things to do and so much joy. Guests were treated to an amazing Mexican meal, custom caricature drawings, a photo booth, and heartfelt speeches that had everyone laughing and crying. I love weddings that prioritize guest experience, and this Appleton wedding was full of thoughtful, meaningful touches that made everyone feel included and loved.
As the evening came to a close, Emily + Richard ended the night with a glowing sparkler exit to their getaway car—a picture-perfect finish to an unforgettable day.
