Some engagement sessions just feel like fall — crisp air, warm sunshine, golden grasses, and that calm, peaceful feeling you only get this time of year. Mollie and Abe’s Lake Wazee engagement session was exactly that.

We met up on a beautiful fall afternoon with the lake shimmering behind them and tall grasses glowing with rich autumn color. Between the water views and the soft fall tones, Lake Wazee was the perfect backdrop for their session — relaxed, natural, and timeless. Mollie and Abe were so easy together, which made photographing them an absolute joy from the very start.

Their love story is one of those that feels a little unbelievable — and Mollie will be the first to tell you it’s not the easiest to explain over email (but it’s a good one).

Mollie moved to Jackson County in March of 2024 after completing her master’s degree to work for the health department. Her former boss, determined to keep her in the area, decided the best solution was… setting her up. That same boss happened to double as an athletic director for the local high school and knew Abe from his days playing sports there. Fast forward to the present, and she was now working with him as an athletic trainer while he coached track.

After seeing Abe a few nights in a row, she decided to tell him everything about Mollie — before Mollie even officially had the job. By Mollie’s second week at work, the health department had a meeting with Abe to discuss a grant. And from there… the rest is history. Mollie laughs now about how her boss totally overstepped, but the best part? It worked.

The Proposal + Life Together

Abe proposed on a lock bridge in Hastings, Minnesota, just before graduating with his master’s degree. The weather was beautiful, the moment was perfect — even with a few interesting characters nearby. And Mollie’s answer was an easy one: “Of course!”

Together, Mollie and Abe love reading, golfing, watching sports, and spending time out and about — whether that means grabbing dinner or drinks, shopping, or enjoying a round of golf. Like many couples, they’ve taken on each other’s hobbies in different ways, and that easy partnership shows in how naturally they move through life together.

That connection was so evident during their engagement session. From quiet moments by the water to laughing their way through the tall grass, everything felt effortless and genuine.

For their photos, we spent time with the water behind them before wandering into the tall grasses filled with fall color. The mix of scenery gave their gallery so much variety while still feeling cohesive and true to who they are. Lake Wazee is one of my favorite locations for fall engagement photos in Wisconsin, and sessions like this are exactly why.

Mollie and Abe absolutely nailed their session, and I can’t wait to photograph them again on their wedding day at Lake Arrowhead!
