From basketball rivals to husband and wife—Molly and Patrick’s love story is something straight out of a rom-com. The kind where you know the universe is working behind the scenes.
Back when Patrick was coaching the girls’ varsity basketball team in Markesan and Molly was coaching at Cambria-Friesland, they’d see each other across the court during conference games. Patrick still swears he did a double take the first time he saw Molly walk into the gym. (And honestly? She doesn’t disagree!) A year went by with nothing more than hopeful glances—until Patrick found her on Instagram, hit follow, and sent a message that led to a night of nonstop chatting. It wasn’t long before they were sharing dinner, deep conversations, and big feelings. Just a few dates in, Patrick told Molly he was in love with her. And she was already feeling the same.
Their proposal was as personal and sweet as the rest of their story. On Christmas Day, at Molly’s childhood home in Ladysmith, Patrick faked a lost wallet to get her outside on the front deck… and then surprised her with a proposal surrounded by family watching from the windows. A truly magical holiday moment.
Fast forward to the wedding day, and the love and joy was just as strong. The girls got ready at Molly’s parents’ home—helping each other into dresses and wiping happy tears during Molly’s first look with her dad. Later, Molly and Patrick saw each other for the first time down by the river. It was intimate, emotional, and full of that quiet kind of joy that makes a wedding day so special.
We took all of their portraits on a neighboring property that overlooked the river. Fall colors were on full display, and the view was breathtaking. Even when a little rain popped in right after the ceremony (perfect timing, right?), everyone rolled with it. Their ceremony space, set outside Heart of the North Brewing Co., was filled with pumpkins, mums, lace, and glowing string lights. Their guests sat on wooden benches and walked down an aisle lined with vintage rugs toward a beautiful triangle arbor decorated with pampas grass and florals.
The whole day was full of warm tones—terracotta, burnt orange, cream, rust—and personality. Bridesmaids wore dresses in different styles and textures, each bringing something unique to the day. Patrick and his groomsmen looked so sharp in gray tuxes with bow ties and suspenders, and the vibe of the whole day was elegant, cozy, and fun… just like them.
Molly and Patrick, thank you for letting me document this chapter of your story—from senior portraits and engagement to your wedding day. You’ve built something beautiful together, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
