Before their beautiful wedding day at Holiday Gardens in Potosi (which I’ll be sharing on the blog soon!), I had the absolute joy of photographing Cara and Garth’s engagement session at Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. And let me just say… it was everything a fall session should be—peaceful, colorful, and full of cozy vibes.
We started the session down by the beach, and somehow had the whole place to ourselves. It was such a calm, golden-hour kind of night—like the world pressed pause just for them. Cara wore a stunning flowy orange dress that danced in the breeze, while Garth looked sharp in a navy suit. Together, they popped against the moody blues of the lake and soft, sandy backdrop. It felt like we were on a movie set, in the best way.
After that, they changed into more casual outfits—Cara in a sweater and jeans, Garth in a button-up—and we headed toward the iconic rock formations. Devil’s Lake is such a gem, especially in the fall. The views, the texture, the color—it’s a dream location for engagement photos. Some of my favorite shots from the session are of them perched on the big rocks, laughing together with the lake shimmering in the background.
One thing that really stood out to me about these two was how much they worked together in planning their wedding. Garth came ready with thoughtful photo questions and ideas, which I always appreciate so much. It’s clear they’re a team, and getting to know them during this session made their wedding day even more special.
Cara and Garth, thank you again for trusting me with this sweet season of your lives. Your Devil’s Lake engagement session was such a highlight, and I loved getting to document your love in such a magical place.
