There’s something really special about getting to work with a family more than once—and Judd’s senior session felt exactly like that. I photographed his older sister’s portraits a few years back, so when his family reached out for his session, I was genuinely excited to catch up and be a part of another milestone for them.

Judd is a senior at Spencer High School, and while he may be on the quieter side, there was a steady calmness about him that made this session so smooth and easy. You could tell he was thoughtful, smart, and just quietly taking everything in, which honestly makes for some of the best, most natural portraits.

We started off at Russell Memorial Park, where the lake, beach, and dock gave us that peaceful, nature-filled backdrop. The light was gorgeous, and it gave us some great shots that felt relaxed and true to him. He has a very grounded presence, and it came through so well in the images.

After the park, we drove into Neillsville to change things up with a little more structure and texture. We stopped by the white brick wall and the old feed mill (a favorite location of mine!), and it was there we got to highlight one of Judd’s big passions—hockey. I loved incorporating his gear into a few portraits to really reflect that side of his life. He’s also involved in band and baseball, and I have to say—he balances his interests in such a low-key, effortless way.

From there, we wrapped up the evening in Greenwood at the beloved blue bridge. Sadly, the bridge isn’t there anymore, so these photos feel extra special. I’m glad we were able to capture them before it was removed—it’s a small-town icon in a way, and I know so many locals feel a connection to that spot.

Throughout the session, we talked a little about his future plans, and let me just say—aerospace engineering is no small goal. Judd hopes to earn his master’s degree, and with his steady, focused mindset, I have no doubt he’s going to get there. He also mentioned he can’t live without his computer or Amazon (relatable, right?), and it was fun getting little glimpses into the things he loves!

Judd, thank you for letting me be part of your senior year journey. It’s always an honor to document these once-in-a-lifetime seasons. Even more so when I get to reconnect with awesome families like yours!
