There are some wedding days that just feel extra full-circle for me, and Maddi and Mathew’s was exactly that. I first met Maddi years ago when she was just a junior in high school. She was one of my senior reps, and I still remember her session like it was yesterday. Since then, I’ve had the joy of photographing her senior portraits, her engagement session, and now her wedding day. It’s always such a gift to watch my clients grow through so many seasons of life—and even more of a gift to document it all.
Maddi and Mathew got married at the beautiful Garden Valley Gatherings in Alma Center, WI.. a venue that feels tucked away in the best kind of way. It’s cozy and charming and surrounded by nature, making it the perfect backdrop for a rustic-yet-elegant wedding. From the moment I arrived, even with the rain coming down, it was obvious that this day was going to be something special.
The forecast didn’t quite cooperate at first. It rained off and on throughout the morning and early afternoon, which meant shifting the timeline and starting the ceremony a little later than planned. But honestly? Maddi and Mathew didn’t skip a beat. They were flexible, joyful, and totally okay with going with the flow. So were their guests. Everyone pitched in to dry off chairs, move decor, and help create the outdoor ceremony Maddi had always envisioned.
And it happened. The rain cleared, the chairs dried, and the ceremony unfolded outside just like they hoped. The aisle was layered with beautiful rugs, guests sat on wooden benches, pampas grass and florals framed the triangle altar, and the whole setting felt like something straight from a dream.
All the Heartfelt Moments
One of the most emotional parts of the day was Maddi’s first look with her dad followed by her first look with Mathew. Let’s just say there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. Those quiet, heartfelt moments always get me, and I felt so lucky to be there to witness and capture them.
The entire day had such a beautiful tone—laid-back but full of meaning. Maddi described her style as “simple, elegant, rustic with a little boho,” and that vision came to life in the best way. The terracotta bridesmaid dresses popped beautifully against the greenery of the venue, and the navy tuxes Mathew and the groomsmen wore added a classic touch. Their flowers were filled with pampas grass, textured greenery, and warm-hued blooms that tied everything together.
Everywhere I turned, there was something beautiful to photograph.. whether it was the cozy barn, the outdoor ceremony space, or the sweet quiet moments between Maddi and Mathew throughout the day. Garden Valley Gatherings is a dream Wisconsin wedding venue for couples who want that mix of rustic charm and natural elegance.
Maddi and Mathew, thank you for letting me walk with you through so many big life moments. I’ll never forget your beautiful wedding, your joy-filled hearts, or the way you embraced every twist and turn with so much grace. I can’t wait to see what’s next in your story.
